Helen asks…
Help! How can I come out of the closet?
This is kind of long; you can skip this next paragraph if you’d like. It just gives more information about my situation.
I am a bisexual teenager, but I am mainly attracted to gay guys and straight girls. I have only had a crush on two straight guys in my life. My friends say I’m more violent than most girls, I play video games all day on weekends, and I prefer men’s clothing style and attitude to female. My family raised me to be their perfect little girl. They took me to ballet classes, gymnastics courses, music lessons, and a cheerleading camp when I was little. I hated those classes so much I faked sick to escape them. When I was really little, they dressed me in dresses and skirts and little white Mary Janes. I absolutely hated that. They curled my hair, even when I said I wanted it cut. I wanted to please them, and still do, so I played along. I abided to their expectations that I would like playing dress-up instead of playing in the mud, wearing skirts instead of shorts, and most importantly, like boys. However, when I started being attracted to girls, about fourth grade, I tried to suppress it. Now I know I’m bisexual, but I have strong feelings for straight girls and gay guys. I think I might be transgender instead of just the tomboy my family thinks I am.
I have a VERY conservative family when it comes to the topic of sexuality, and I don’t think they would like it if I came out to them as transgender or bisexual, let alone both. I said the word “gay” about two homosexual men one time in front of my dad and he flipped out. My mom finds lesbians weird, and I’m not comfortable coming out to them. Plus, I have one little 7 year old sister who won’t get it until she’s older. I don’t think I can come out to them until I think that through more.
However, I want to come out to somebody, and I think my four closest friends would accept me if I told them. I think that if everything goes well with them, that with the proper professional articles on being transgender and bisexual, as well as a nearby LGBT center (which I have found) or online equivalent, my parents could accept me for who I am.
Another catch: I have a bit of a thing for one of my friends, and she’s straight. If I told her that, she might find it weird. I’m torn and need some advice! Any advice, please and thank you!

Don Caron and friends answers:
Im trans*(ftm) and my family is really christian, i always made it known that i suppout lgbtq rights. But anyway i find it easyer to come out to an educated family so,i made sure to get caught watching documenterys on the topic of gender and sexuality.Try to educate them,BUT ALLWAYS,stay safe and dont rush yourself. If you suspect that your family will react violently, its probably safer to stay in the closet. Best of luck my friend

Lizzie asks…
Ballet Questions for ballet dancers?
I am a college student and I have to write a paper on ballet and what it means to the art world. For one of my sources i am suppose to have an interview. I waited til the last minute and don’t have my interview done, so any ballet dancers (instructors preferably) who would answer the questions for me, it would be greatly appreciated. If you don’t feel like posting your answers online you can e-mail them to me at vp2008@yahoo.com. Thanks. I need this as soon as possible. Elaborate as much as you want.
Here are the questions:
How many years have you danced?
Did you go to school for ballet?
How long have you taught ballet?
Do you consider ballet an art? What are your reasons?
Do you have a favorite dance or play or position?
What is your most memorable moment in ballet?
Do you think ballet should be taught in schools as an elective similar to other art classes, such as visual arts, ceramics, photography, drama, and music?
Do you think ballet should be considered for a spot in the Olympics since it has many of the same characteristics as figure skating or synchronized swimming?
Who was your inspiration to become a ballet dancer/teacher?
Do you think ballet is under appreciated as an art? And is seen only as entertainment value?

Don Caron and friends answers:
Yes
Yes
I have never taught ballet
I consider it an art because you are creating something someone can look at and enjoy or not enjoy. You are making shapes with your body.
No I like all dance. I also do tap.
When I got my toe shoes for the first time and I felt like I was on top of the world. Which I later realized I wasn’t…
I think that if people want to do it and support it yes!! M school does give that option and it is wonderful!
I don’t think that it needs to be that competitive. There are already dance competitions and it doesn’t need to be that commercialized. It would be nice if more young people especially men would become involved.
My parents actually signed me up and now I am here!
YES!!! People think that it is only for women but it is not. Not many people appreciate the ‘simple’ things in life and they need to.
